It’s Possible to Write a Novel in Seven Weeks

Here’s how I accomplished this feat

No one ever said writing a novel is easy. Along with needing to understand grammar and sentence structure, there are the added tasks of plot and character development, crafting a believable and interesting setting, and engaging the reader from the very first sentence.

But there’s even more to consider than that. The amount of internal resistance we put forth as writers — whether it’s planning everything in advance or flying by the seats of our pants — is also at play. And it doesn’t just affect the way we write. It can have a significant influence over how quickly we complete our manuscript and the volume of revisions required before we are ready to introduce it to the world.

Since leaving my full-time executive job in early 2020, I have crafted two full-length novels. But there are little similarities in how I went about writing them.

Novel #1 Approach: Just Write

My first novel was primarily an exercise in patience, determination, and commitment. I’ve wanted to write full time for years, but life always seemed to have other plans. When I finally had the time and resources to pursue this dream, I did, in fact, complete the work I set out to write.
